Most cookie notices are vague on purpose. This one lists every single thing this website stores on your device, what it is for, and how long it stays.

1. The short version
This website currently sets no tracking cookies of any kind.
The only thing stored on your device is a record of your own cookie choice, so we do not have to ask you again on every page. There is no advertising, no third-party tracking, no cross-site profiling and nothing sold to anyone.
If that changes — for example if we add privacy-friendly analytics — non-essential storage will only ever be used after you agree to it, and this page will be updated before it goes live.
2. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets a site remember something between page loads — that you are logged in, for instance, or which options you chose.
Websites can also store information in other ways, such as local storage. The law in the UK — the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, read alongside the UK GDPR — treats these the same way, so this notice covers both. Where this page says "cookie", it means any of these storage technologies.
Cookies are usually described in two ways:
- First party or third party — set by the site you are visiting, or by someone else whose content is embedded in it
- Session or persistent — deleted when you close the browser, or kept for a set period
3. Your current choice
This panel reads the preference stored in your own browser, right now. Nothing here is sent to us.
4. Strictly necessary storage
These are needed for the website to work, or to honour a choice you have made. Under PECR they are exempt from the consent requirement, so they cannot be switched off — but they are listed here anyway, because you should be able to see them.

Our host, Netlify, also records standard server logs when a page is requested, including your IP address and browser type. Those logs are generated by the web server rather than stored on your device, so they are not cookies — but they are personal data, and they are covered in the Privacy Notice.
5. Analytics
Not currently in use. No analytics service is running on this website at the date shown at the top of this page.
If analytics is added later, it will be a privacy-friendly service chosen because it does not build advertising profiles or track people across other websites. It will be listed in the table below, it will only load after you have agreed, and you will be asked before anything is stored.

6. Third-party content
This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. That means your browser makes a request
to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, which reveals
your IP address to Google as part of serving the font files.
Google Fonts does not set cookies when serving fonts, and we do not use it to identify you. It is listed here because a request to another company's server is exactly the kind of thing a cookie notice should be upfront about.
We do not embed advertising, social media pixels, session recording, heatmapping, chat widgets or any other third-party tracker.
7. How consent works here
Two things worth stating plainly, because plenty of websites get them wrong:
- Continuing to browse is not consent. Consent under the UK GDPR has to be a clear, affirmative action. Scrolling, or simply not closing a banner, does not count — so we do not treat it as though it does.
- Refusing is as easy as accepting. Where a banner appears, reject and accept carry equal weight. There is no hidden "manage options" maze designed to wear you down.
Non-essential storage is off until you turn it on. If you change your mind, use the button in section 3 above, or the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent takes effect immediately and is as easy as giving it.
8. Browser controls
You can also manage or delete cookies in your browser, independently of anything on this site. Blocking all cookies can stop some websites working properly — though it will not break this one.
To clear the one item this site stores, delete site data for
alecodex.com in your browser settings. The banner will simply ask again
next time.
9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. There is no settled standard for how websites must respond to Do Not Track, and many ignore it.
Since this site runs no tracking in the first place, there is nothing for either signal to switch off. If analytics is ever added, a Global Privacy Control signal will be treated as a refusal.
10. Changes
We will update this notice whenever the cookies or storage used by the site change, and always before a new one goes live. The current version is published at alecodex.com/cookies.html, with the date of the last change at the top.
